Namma Metro: Phase 3-A Gets Green Light, Full Details Inside

The Urban Development Department (UDD) has given the thumbs up for Namma Metro’s Phase 3-A project, which will connect Hebbal to Sarjapur, covering over 37 kilometers.

According to Deccan Herald, before the project receives final Cabinet approval, the Finance Department will review the detailed project report (DPR) to assess its financial impact on the state budget. Government sources confirmed that the UDD consulted with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has proposed a tunnel road along the Sarjapur-Hebbal metro line.

This new metro line is crucial for Bengaluru as it links the city’s tech hub to the Kempegowda International Airport. With Chief Minister Siddaramaiah overseeing the Finance Department, we can expect quick Cabinet clearance once the finance approval is obtained.

The project will include 28 stations, featuring 11 underground ones, and will combine both elevated and underground sections. Key areas like Iblur, Koramangala, Shanthinagar, Town Hall, and Mehkri Circle will be served by this line. Additionally, an elevated double-decker road is planned for the Sarjapur-Koramangala stretch. However, since the DPR focuses solely on metro needs, extra funds will be needed for the elevated road because the Centre does not cover road-related projects.

Metro supporters have expressed concerns that adding a double-decker road could delay this vital transit corridor. Meanwhile, officials noted that the Centre approved the Phase 3 project, covering sections of the Outer Ring Road (JP Nagar-Kempapura) and Magadi Road, on September 27, paving the way for its Rs 15,600-crore implementation.
