Ashok Leyland truck sales decline 13% at 7,208 units; sales for buses rises 8%

This positive performance in the bus segment suggests sustained demand in the public transportation sector.
Ashok Leyland, in a report released on Monday, revealed its October 2024 domestic sales figures showing a 13% year-on-year decline in truck sales and an 8% increase in bus sales. The company's stock price reacted to the news, closing down over 1.6% at Rs 205.

Ashok Leyland sold 7,208 trucks in October 2024, down from 8,272 units sold in October 2023, marking a 13% decrease. Conversely, bus sales reached 1,229 units in October 2024, an 8% increase from the 1,139 units sold in October 2023. This positive performance in the bus segment suggests sustained demand in the public transportation sector.

Light commercial vehicle sales

Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales also declined, with 5,630 units sold in October 2024, down 11% from the 6,348 units sold in October 2023. This decrease points to potential challenges within the LCV segment, such as fluctuating demand or heightened competition.

“This uptick in bus sales suggests a steady demand in the public transport sector, which could be attributed to infrastructure projects or increased fleet renewals by operators.”
