The process of paying challans for violation of road rules is set to become as easy as making payments when shopping online.
The process of paying challans for violation of road rules is set to become as easy as making payments when shopping online. Delhi govt has issued a tender for the selection of a service provider to develop a WhatsApp Business and Application Programming Interface-based solution for fines related to traffic rules.

The system will send an automated message to be the violator’s mobile phone via WhatsApp with details of the violation and the fine amount. “Clicking on the payment option on the WhatsApp message will direct the message recipient to a payment gateway with multiple options to pay one or more fines,” said a govt official. According to the tender document, the service provider is to develop a system through which the transport department will send payment links directly via WhatsApp. The WhatsApp messages will be sent in Hindi and English.

“The messaging framework must be capable of sending messages in various media formats like images, PDF and video, as allowed by WhatsApp,” the official said. In addition to the WhatsApp payment option, there will also be integration of the challan payments with popular UPI apps like Google Pay, BHIM and other platforms. This will allow people to pay their challans quickly .

“Once a payment is made through one of these apps, push notifications will be sent every time a new challan is generated,” the official added.“Since WhatsApp has a push message facility, it will keep reminding ,” said the official. Currently, people use govt’s Parivahan e-challan website to pay fines.
