JSW MG Motor India has implemented ambient temperature phosphate (at 38°C) developed by PPG Asian Paints in its Pretreatment Electrodeposition (PT-ED) line. JSW MG Motor India, in partnership with PPG Asian Paints, has implemented a new Green Pretreatment line in its paint shop, becoming the first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to do so. This initiative utilises ambient temperature phosphate technology, significantly reducing carbon emissions and improving process efficiency. The new technology operates at 38°C, compared to the conventional 42-50°C, resulting in an estimated reduction of 1,800 tons of carbon emissions annually. This achievement builds upon previous collaborations between the two companies focused on sustainable manufacturing practices.
JSW MG Motor India has adopted ambient temperature phosphate (at 38°C) developed by PPG Asian Paints in its Pretreatment Electrodeposition (PT-ED) line. This innovative approach eliminates the need for heating in the pretreatment process, leading to substantial fuel savings and a significant drop in carbon emissions. The technology also simplifies operations and reduces maintenance requirements, boosting overall process efficiency.
“This new PT-ED line showcases the spirit of innovation, allowing us to enhance our green manufacturing process vision and set a new industry benchmark for sustainable practices. Through strong partnerships like the one with PPG Asian Paints and our shared vision for a sustainable future, we've significantly reduced carbon emissions since 2022," said Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India.
A step towards sustainabilityThis is not the first collaboration between JSW MG Motor India and PPG Asian Paints focused on sustainable practices. In 2022, JSW MG Motor India adopted ULTRAX Degreaser, a liquid alkaline degreasing cleaner developed by PPG Asian Paints. This, along with the implementation of High Throw Low Cure Cathodic Electro Coating Paint, resulted in a CO2 reduction of 787 tons per annum.
“Our partnership with MG underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Through our joint efforts and shared expertise, we are taking a significant step forward in promoting energy conservation, and we are delighted to be a part of the brand's sustainability initiative,” mentioned Jitendra Kalra, CEO, PPG Asian Paints.
Further CO2 reductions were achieved through the use of Low-Temperature Phosphate (VERSABOND), resulting in a reduction of 325 tons per annum, and High Throw Low Cure Cathodic Electro Coating Paint, which contributed to a reduction of approximately 388 tons per annum. These combined initiatives have led to an overall 47% reduction in carbon emissions for JSW MG Motor India.
