Honda achieves 3 star rating in FIA Road Safety Index

The announcement was made during “Challenge 2030: Achieving the global road safety goals,” a concurrent event of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety.
Honda achieved a 3-star rating, the highest possible, in the FIA Road Safety Index. This recognition, announced on February 17, 2025, at a road safety conference in Marrakech, Morocco, makes Honda the first automaker to reach this milestone. The FIA Road Safety Index measures a company's road safety impact across its operations. Honda underwent audits for both the supply chain and product/service ratings, earning 3 stars in each. This achievement reflects Honda's commitment to its "Safety for Everyone" slogan and its goal of zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050.

“Honda is honored to have our long-standing safety initiatives recognized through successful completion of the FIA Road Safety Index. The FIA Road Safety Index has proven to be a promising tool to objectively evaluate the sincere safety initiatives of Honda. We are expecting that widespread commitment to safety initiatives among more companies and organizations will lead to reduction of traffic collisions around the world,” mentioned Hideaki Takaishi, General Manager of Safety Planning Division, Corporate Planning Unit, Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

Challenge 2030: Achieving the global road safety goals

The announcement was made during “Challenge 2030: Achieving the global road safety goals,” a concurrent event of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety. The conference took place in Marrakech, Morocco, from February 18-20, 2025. The FIA Road Safety Index is a new tool designed to help companies and organizations assess and improve their road safety performance.

“Safety is at the heart of our mission in both motorsport and for the daily road user. Through the FIA Road Safety Index, we help companies measure and improve their impact on road safety. We are pleased to announce that Honda is the first car and motorcycle manufacturer to achieve the Index's highest rating of 3 stars both for its supply chain and safety-related products and services. Honda has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement in road safety,” mentioned Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility.

FIA RS Index

The Index provides a comprehensive evaluation of a company's safety footprint. This assessment considers various factors, including road safety goals, commitment, and the number of traffic fatalities and injuries across the value chain. The FIA RS Index includes two ratings: the “supply chain rating” and the “product/service rating.”

Honda aims to reduce global traffic collision fatalities involving its vehicles by 50% by 2030, compared to 2020 figures. This is measured per 10,000 units sold. The company's ultimate goal is to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050.

Honda plans to utilize its extensive safety knowledge to support the standardization of road safety evaluation indexes. The company aims to contribute to solving societal issues related to road safety within the framework of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). Honda will continue striving for safety to enhance mobility and create a more sustainable society. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) developed the Road Safety Index.
