Geolandar X-CVYokohama India has started producing 20-inch tyres at its Bahadurgarh, Haryana facility to meet the rising demand driven by the popularity of SUVs and the premium car segment. This expansion allows the company to offer high-performance tyres like the Geolandar X-CV (G057), designed for luxury SUVs, and strengthens its commitment to the Indian market.
The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese firm had recently localised the production of 19-inch tyres, and the new expansion reinforces their ability to manufacture tyres up to 24 inches.
“With improving road infrastructure and advancement in vehicle geometry, passenger segment vehicles are now opting for larger-inch tyres,” said Gaurav Mahajan, Head of Marketing at Yokohama India.
Tyre demand dynamics
The increasing demand for larger tyres is linked to the growing preference for SUVs and premium vehicles in India. Yokohama India aims to cater to this demand by producing these tyres locally. The company distributes its tyres through a network of over 3,000 retailers across India.
The Geolandar X-CV (G057) is a key product in Yokohama India’s premium tire range. It is specifically engineered for luxury SUVs, incorporating features like an asymmetric tread pattern and advanced silica compounds. The tire also features a 2-ply sidewall for added durability. These features contribute to a smoother driving experience and improved grip.
Increasing manufacturing capacities
Yokohama India has stated its manufacturing capacity extends to tyres up to 24 inches. This preparedness positions them to cater to the growing demand for larger tire sizes in the future. The company aims to continue serving the premium segment with high-performance products.
