Jharkhand's EV sales surge by 23% in January 2025, outpacing national growth

EVs were sold in January 2024 in India, marking a 17.13per cent growth, FADA said.
Sale of electric vehicle in Jharkhand made a significant jump with 23% growth in January 2025 compared to January last year, which is above the national EV sales average of 17% growth in the same period, as per the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA).

Petrol and diesel segment vehicle sales in the state also marked significant growth above the national average.

Two-wheeler EV sales saw a substantial increase with the sale of 961 units in January 2025, while in January 2024, two-wheeler EV sales were 552 units, marking a 74.09% growth. However, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles in the EV segment in Jharkhand saw a decline of 4.05per cent and 33.33per cent respectively, FADA said in a statement.

A total of 2,086 units of EVs were sold in Jharkhand in January 2025, while 1,696 units of EVs were sold in Jharkhand in January 2024, which is a 23% growth. A total of 1,69,931 units of EVs were sold in India in January 2025, while 1,45,079 EVs were sold in January 2024 in India, marking a 17.13% growth, FADA said.

Govind P Mewar, Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) Jharkhand Chapter Chairperson said, "At the Jharkhand level, two-wheelers registered a growth of 15.62per cent with sales of 35,449 units in January 2025, whereas in January 2024, it was only 30,661 units. Two-wheeler retail stood at 15,25,862 units last month, an increase of 4.15per cent compared to 14,65,039 units in the same month last year. Three-wheelers registered a growth of 7.72per cent by selling 2,066 units in January 2025, whereas in January 2024, it was 1,918 units."

Talking about commercial vehicles, in January 2025, there was an increase of 11.07% to 1,906 units, whereas in January 2024, it was 1,716 units. Commercial vehicle sales rose 8.22% year-on-year in January to 99,425 units. Passenger vehicles registered a huge growth of 25.34% by registering sales of 6,282 units in January this year, while in January 2024, passenger vehicles registered sales of only 5,012 units. In January 2025, EV vehicle sales in Jharkhand jumped by 23% growth, while the national average for EV vehicle sales marked 17.13%.

"The reason for the increase in sales due to the launch of many new models by the companies. This increase is much more than the national sales figures," Mewar said.

FADA noted that riding on the momentum of a promising start to 2025, the auto retail sector enters February with cautious optimism. According to a latest survey, nearly half of dealers (46%) anticipate growth this month, while 43% expect sales to stay flat and 11per cent foresee a dip, the industry body said.
