Toyota Kirloskar Motor Senior Leadership also received the “Sunrise Sector Pioneer Award” at the Invest Karnataka 2025 Global Investors MeetLate Vikram S. Kirloskar, former Vice-Chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), was posthumously awarded the “Industrial Legacy” award by the Karnataka government at the Invest Karnataka 2025 Global Investors Meet (GIM).
TKM also received the “Sunrise Sector Pioneer Award” in the Automotive Division. These awards recognize Kirloskar's contributions to Karnataka's industrial development and TKM's role in innovation and economic growth within the state.
“On behalf of my mother Geetanjali Kirloskar and everyone at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Karnataka for honouring my father with the ‘Industrial Legacy’ Award and recognising Toyota Kirloskar Motor with the ‘Sunrise Sector Pioneer Award.’ This is a deeply emotional and proud moment for us," stated Manasi N. Tata, Vice-Chairperson of Toyota Kirloskar Motor and daughter of the late Vikram S. Kirloskar.
A major contributor in enhancing Karnataka's manufacturing sectorThe Karnataka government recognised Kirloskar's visionary leadership and transformative influence on the state’s industrial, economic, and social landscape. His commitment to industrialisation, job creation, skill development, and a strong local supplier ecosystem contributed to Karnataka's emergence as a manufacturing hub. The “Sunrise Sector Pioneer Award” acknowledges TKM's leadership in innovation, sustainability, and economic growth, reflecting Kirloskar’s foundational work.
Kirloskar, an MIT graduate, was a prominent figure in India's manufacturing and automotive sectors. He played a key role in establishing TKM in Bidadi, Karnataka. His focus on inclusive growth promoted an industrial ecosystem balancing economic development with environmental responsibility and social impact.
"My father dedicated his life to advancing manufacturing excellence, sustainability, and innovation, believing in Karnataka’s immense industrial potential. This recognition reinforces Toyota’s commitment to responsible industrialisation and green mobility,” added Tata.
His legacy in automotive industry Kirloskar also served as the former President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), established under Kirloskar's leadership, provides technical education and employment opportunities to young people, especially from rural Karnataka.
TKM has invested INR 16,000 crores in Karnataka over 25 years, with an additional INR 4,000 crores currently being invested, including the development of a third manufacturing plant.
