"The city will receive 150 air-conditioned electric buses to improve public transportation and alleviate traffic congestion," MP Shankar Lalwani said, adding that Indore was selected to receive the most e-buses under the scheme.
"The PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme aims to enhance public transport in cities by deploying electric buses on a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model," he said, adding that new electric buses will benefit the general public by providing a comfortable and eco-friendly mode of transportation.
"The deployment of these buses will also contribute to reducing Indore's carbon footprint and generate carbon credits for the city," IMC commissioner Shivam Verma said, adding that the processing of allotting the tender was completed and the city will soon get the e-vehicles.
According to senior IMC officials, there are a total of 179 CNG buses and more than 70 e-buses being operated in Indore as public transportation, while they have planned to replace the existing diesel-run buses on BRTS with new e-buses after receiving the delivery.
Presently, there are as many as 27 public charging stations with 211 charging points for EVs in Indore including 18 solar power enabled charging stations, and the civic body has also planned to increase the same. These charging stations have also proved useful for e-rickshaw operators, the commissioner said.
