Ola Electric launches Roadster X series starting at INR 75K

Ola Electric has launched its Roadster X series of electric motorcycles in India, aiming to expand its presence in the EV market and accelerate EV adoption. The company announced the launch today, introducing three models: Roadster X, Roadster X+ 4.5kWh, and Roadster X+ 9.1kWh. These models offer varying ranges and performance capabilities, with prices starting at INR 74,999.

Ola Electric, India’s largest pure-play EV company, is entering the electric motorcycle segment with the Roadster X series. The company aims to redefine motorcycling with a focus on performance and riding experience. This launch builds upon Ola Electric's existing presence in the electric scooter market. The company intends to make electric vehicles the preferred choice for riders across India.

Variants + prices

The Roadster X series is built on Ola Electric’s scalable motorcycle platform. This series offers three models: the Roadster X, Roadster X+ 4.5kWh, and Roadster X+ 9.1kWh. The Roadster X starts at INR 74,999, the Roadster X+ 4.5kWh is priced at INR 1,04,999, and the Roadster X+ 9.1kWh costs INR 1,54,999. The latter model boasts a range of 501 km/charge and utilizes a 4680 Bharat Cell battery.

The Roadster X is available in three variants with different battery capacities: 2.5kWh, 3.5kWh, and 4.5kWh. These are priced at INR 74,999, INR 84,999, and INR 94,999, respectively. All Roadster series motorcycles come with a standard warranty of 3 years/50,000 km. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid-March.

The Roadster series features a compact design and a modular platform. This platform is designed for improved performance, efficiency, and reliability across various riding conditions. All models in the series are equipped with a mid-drive motor for enhanced performance and safety.

Features

The Roadster series powertrain includes a chain drive and an integrated MCU for efficient torque transfer. This setup aims to provide superior acceleration and improved range while reducing costs. Ola Electric is also introducing flat cables in these motorcycles, claiming it as an industry-first innovation. These cables are intended to improve packaging efficiency, reduce weight, and enhance thermal performance, leading to better durability and reliability.

The Roadster series features patented brake-by-wire technology with single ABS. It also includes smart MoveOS 5 features such as advanced regeneration, cruise control, and reverse mode. The battery system is designed to be modular, adapting to different capacities while maintaining safety and energy efficiency.

The Roadster series battery system has IP67 waterproof and dust-proof certification. It also features advanced wire bonding technology and a serviceable Battery Management System (BMS). The motorcycles utilize a double cradle frame architecture designed for strength, lightweight agility, and optimized weight distribution. This contributes to a lower center of gravity, increasing stability, maneuverability, and rider safety.

Riding modes

The Roadster X is powered by a 7kW mid-drive motor, focusing on performance and affordability. The Roadster X has a top speed of 105 km/h for the 2.5kWh variant and 118 km/h for the 3.5kWh and 4.5kWh variants. The range for these variants is 140 km, 196 km, and 252 km (IDC), respectively. The 2.5kWh variant accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.4 seconds, while the 3.5kWh and 4.5kWh variants achieve the same in 3.1 seconds.

The Roadster X features Sports, Normal, and Eco riding modes. It is equipped with a 4.3” LCD color segmented display with smart connectivity and USB, powered by MoveOS 5. It is available in Industrial Silver, Anthracite, Stellar blue, Pine green, and Ceramic white color options.

The Roadster X+ (4.5kWh and 9.1kWh) is powered by an 11kW motor with a top speed of 125 km/h. It accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in 2.7 seconds. The Roadster X+ offers a range of 252 km (IDC) for the 4.5kWh variant and 501 km (IDC) for the 9.1kWh variant. It also includes Sports, Normal, and Eco riding modes.

The Roadster X+ features a 4.3” segmented LCD screen with USB, powered by MoveOS 5. It offers digital tech features including energy insights, advanced regen, cruise control, and reverse mode. It is available in Industrial Silver, Anthracite, Stellar blue, Pine green, and Ceramic white.

Ola Electric Gen 3 portfolio

Ola Electric recently introduced its Gen 3 portfolio. This includes the S1 Pro+ 5.3kWh priced at INR 1,69,999 and the S1 Pro+ 4kWh priced at INR 1,54,999. The S1 Pro is available with a 4kWh battery for INR 1,34,999 and a 3kWh battery for INR 1,14,999. The S1 X range is priced at INR 79,999 for the 2kWh variant, INR 89,999 for the 3kWh variant, and INR 99,999 for the 4kWh variant. The S1 X+ with a 4kWh battery is priced at INR 1,07,999.

Ola Electric will continue to sell its Gen 2 scooters with discounts of up to INR 35,000. The S1 Pro now starts at INR 1,14,999, and the S1 X (2kWh, 3kWh, and 4kWh) now start at INR 69,999, INR 79,999, and INR 89,999, respectively.

Gig and S1 Z scooter range

Ola Electric also recently announced the launch of its Gig and S1 Z scooter range. This range includes the Ola Gig, Ola Gig+, Ola S1 Z, and Ola S1 Z+. These are available at introductory prices of INR 39,999 (ex-showroom), INR 49,999 (ex-showroom), INR 59,999 (ex-showroom), and INR 64,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. These scooters offer removable batteries and are designed for personal and commercial use in rural, semi-urban, and urban areas.

Reservations for the Gig and S1 Z series are open at INR 499. Deliveries for the Gig series will begin in April 2025, and deliveries for the S1 Z series will begin in May 2025.
