Modi said if voted to power, BJP will run a massive campaign to ensure drinking water reaches everyone. He also took repeated jibes at AAP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Delhi's e-rickshaw drivers will receive the same benefits that BJP promised autorickshaw owners.
Interacting with booth-level workers through video-conferencing, Modi said, "Tell them from my side they will get the same benefit... I will talk to people in Delhi BJP and they will definitely listen to me."
During the 75-minute interaction, Chaitanya Kumar Pandey, a party worker and auto driver from Todapur, told Modi many e-rickshaw drivers lived in jhuggis. He asked if BJP would offer benefits similar to those promised to auto owners, saying it would impact lakhs of people.
In its manifesto, BJP had announced welfare boards for autorickshaw and taxi drivers, apart from Rs 10 lakh life insurance, Rs 5 lakh accident insurance and scholarships for their children pursuing higher education.
About 90,000 autorickshaws operate in Delhi. There are about 1.2 lakh registered e-rickshaws, but the actual numbers could be double as many unregistered e-rickshaws also ply.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said, "Assurance towards an e-rickshaw driver welfare board during the PM's conversation with an auto driver showcases his sensitivity. The message delivered by him will undoubtedly serve as a source of energy for BJP workers during the assembly elections."
Modi said if voted to power, BJP will run a massive campaign to ensure drinking water reaches everyone. He also took repeated jibes at AAP. Without naming Kejriwal, PM said he promised to clean the Yamuna but now claims cleaning the river does not get votes. AAP failed to fulfil its promise of building houses for the poor, he said, adding Centre built thousands of homes for them.
