Yulu launches shared electric mobility services in Kolkata in partnership with Electrie

This expansion will broaden the reach of Yulu's shared mobility services within the region.
Yulu, India's largest shared electric mobility company, launched its services in Kolkata through a franchise partnership with Electrie. This marks Yulu's 13th market and its first venture in Eastern India. Electrie, founded by Soham Misra, will deploy Yulu's electric vehicles and technology platform across the city, initially focusing on key areas like Topsia, Ballygunge, Park Street, and Jadavpur. The partnership aims to provide a sustainable mobility solution for delivery riders working with companies like Swiggy, Zomato, and Amazon. Yulu's franchise partner initiative, Yulu Business Partner (YBP), facilitates this expansion.

Yulu forays in Kolkata
Yulu's entry into Kolkata is driven by the city's dense urban layout, the increasing demand for e-commerce deliveries, and its environmentally conscious population. The company believes these factors create a suitable environment for its goods mobility service. Electrie plans to onboard approximately 1,000 delivery riders in the next six months. The long-term goal is to expand services to other districts like Howrah and North & South 24 Parganas.

“Kolkata’s dynamic growth and its increasing focus on sustainability make it a perfect fit for Yulu’s eco-friendly shared electric mobility platform. We are thrilled to unveil Yulu’s partnership with Electrie. We are also excited to work with Soham Misra, whose deep market understanding and ambition to drive a sustainable mobility revolution will enable Yulu to accelerate the EV transition not just within Kolkata, but also the wider region in due time,” stated Yulu's co-founder and CEO, Amit Gupta.

“With this launch, Yulu’s YBP initiative has reached six cities, in addition to the seven where we have a direct presence. Yulu looks forward to collaborating with more entrepreneurs across India to democratise clean and sustainable mobility alternatives for last-mile deliveries, leisure rides and commutes,” he highlighted.

“We are excited to partner with Yulu for the rollout of this high-tech and sustainable goods mobility service in Kolkata. Electrie aims to become the largest provider of last-mile delivery, sales, operations, and maintenance services for battery-operated vehicles in East India. Together, we look forward to driving the adoption of EVs for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in the region, helping business partners reduce their carbon footprint and contributing to a greener, cleaner and pollution-free India,” believes Soham Misra, founder of Electrie.

Electrie targets
Electrie aims to become the leading provider of services for battery-operated vehicles in East India. This encompasses last-mile delivery, sales, operations, and maintenance. Misra highlighted their joint effort to promote electric vehicle adoption for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in the region. This will assist business partners in reducing their carbon footprint and contribute to a more environmentally friendly India.

Yulu's greener solution
Yulu's technology platform has proven successful in quick commerce and e-commerce delivery applications, operating over 45,000 shared electric vehicles across India. The platform reduces delivery costs by 30-40% by eliminating fuel and maintenance expenses, while also increasing vehicle uptime and rider efficiency. Yulu also aims to provide affordable and efficient mobility for delivery riders, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for gig workers.

Currently, three battery swapping stations set up by Yuma Energy in Central, East, and South Kolkata support the electric vehicle fleet. As Electrie expands its operations to Rajarhat, Salt Lake, New Town, and districts like Howrah, more charging infrastructure will likely be needed. This expansion will broaden the reach of Yulu's shared mobility services within the region. Yulu's platform offers a viable and sustainable solution for businesses and delivery riders, contributing to the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in India.
